Last week to bring socks!๐Ÿงฆ

Did you know that socks are one of the most requested, but least donated items for people experiencing hardship? Letโ€™s change that โ€“ one pair at a time. ๐Ÿ’›We are leading this effort to bring comfort and care to our students, and weโ€™re inviting schools and community members to join in!

๐Ÿ“ Look for collection boxes at every APS school and locations throughout the community.
๐Ÿงฆ All donations go directly to students who need them most.
๐ŸŽฏ Goal: Warm feet, full hearts, and a stronger, more connected community.
Letโ€™s make this the coziest and kindest Socktober yet! ๐Ÿงฆ๐Ÿ’›

We know that many families in our community are feeling the impact of the federal government shutdown. Alamogordo is home to a large number of federally connected families, including those serving and working at Holloman Air Force Base, and we understand that furloughs and delayed paychecks can cause significant stress.

Alamogordo Public Schools cares deeply about our students, families, and community, and we want to ensure that everyone has access to the support and resources they need during this time.

โœจHere are some of the resources available to help:
๐ŸŽAPS Mobile Food Pantry: Our next Mobile Food Pantry will be held on Wednesday, November 5th, at 2:30 pm at the Riner Steinhoff Soccer Complex on First Street. It is open to all APS families. (First Wednesday of each month)
๐Ÿ’—Tiger Care Center: The Tiger Care Center provides hygiene items, clothing, and emergency food support assistance to students who qualify. For families who may not meet the qualifications, our staff can help connect you with other local resources.
๐Ÿ’ปOtero County Resource Guide: View the full list of Otero County Resources โžœ https://5il.co/2qtcu
๐ŸŒฎOtero County Food Pantries & Community Meals: Find local food pantries and meal locations โžœ https://5il.co/2qtct

If your family is in need of assistance, please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to your childโ€™s school counselor, principal, or the H.O.P.E. Team at hope@alamogordoschools.org or 575-430-0191. They can help connect you directly to the support available through APS or through our community partners. Learn more about H.O.P.E. and available community resources on our website at: https://www.alamogordoschools.org/page/hope

๐Ÿ’› We are grateful for the strength, compassion, and resilience that make our Alamogordo community so special. Weโ€™re all in this together, and help is available if you need it. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŽ€ Red Ribbon Week | October 23-31 ๐ŸŽ€

Alamogordo Public Schools is proud to join the national movement to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles for our students and community. This yearโ€™s Red Ribbon Week is all about making informed choices and standing strong against the dangers of alcohol, drugs, vaping, and tobacco use. ๐Ÿ’ช

Through education, awareness, and support, weโ€™re empowering students to rise above peer pressure and lead lives full of potential, purpose, and promise.

๐Ÿšซ Say no to drugs.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Talk about the risks.
โค๏ธ Choose to live drug-free.

Together, with the support of families, staff, and the APS HOPE & Health Services Teams, we can create a safer, healthier future for every student.

As the holiday season approaches and we battle the inevitable cold and flu season, we want to highlight the important role regular school attendance plays in your child's academic success. ๐Ÿ–๏ธResearch consistently shows that students who attend school regularly perform better academically than those with chronic absenteeism, providing a solid foundation for future achievement. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ““

โœจ Here are some actionable tips to help prioritize attendance even in the face of controllable factors: โœจ

โ–ช๏ธ Plan Vacations Strategically: Consider planning trips during school breaks or weekends to avoid unnecessary disruptions to your child's education.
โ–ช๏ธ Communicate: Identifying & addressing issues early can prevent prolonged absences.
โ–ช๏ธ Schedule Appointments Strategically: Whenever possible, try to schedule routine appointments outside of school hours or during breaks.
โ–ช๏ธ Utilize Support Services: Take advantage of the support services offered by our district.
