Carol Teweleit, Secretary
Carol Teweleit, a resident of Alamogordo, arrived at Holloman Air Force Base in 1978 accompanied by her husband and three sons. Her husband had been transferred to the base by the Air Force following a previous assignment in Spain. Prior to that, Carol and her family had resided in various locations including England, France, Germany, Oregon, and Clovis, New Mexico. All of her sons completed their education at Alamogordo High School, with one son joining the army and later pursuing a career as a police officer, another son enlisting in the Air Force and later transitioning to the Coast Guard before securing employment with a large company, and her third son, who was part of Tiger Band, currently serving as a band director at West Texas A and M in Canyon, Texas. He earned his Doctorate in Music Education from Oklahoma University.
Having obtained her degree from NMSU, Carol embarked on her teaching journey in Alamogordo. She spent 22 years as a Language Arts teacher at Chaparral Middle School and subsequently served as a counselor at Mountain View Middle School for an additional nine years. Throughout her career as an educator, Carol actively participated in the National Education Association (NEA), dedicating her time and efforts to advocate for students and fellow educators. In recognition of her unwavering commitment, she received the Advocate of the Year Award in 1999 from NEA-New Mexico. Carol also represented the state of New Mexico as the NEA Director at the national level.
Currently, Carol holds the position of state President at NEA-NM Retired, where she continues to champion the cause of students and public schools. In addition to her involvement in education, she serves on the C.O.P.E. Board of Directors and is a member of the DKG Sorority and Otero County Association of Education Retirees. During her leisure time, Carol enjoys line dancing as a means of both entertainment and exercise.
The decision to remain in Alamogordo was motivated by the exceptional individuals residing there, as well as the beautiful weather that the area offers.
