Originally from Ohio, Dr. Moore is the father of two sons and grandfather of two grandsons.  His wife, Sue, is an Alamogordo native and alumnus of Alamogordo High School.  He is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, having served since his initial USAF enlistment after high school graduation in 1981 until his retirement in 2004.  His Air Force career included three command assignments: Commander, Detachment 1, Commander of the 51st Materiel Maintenance Squadron, Taegu AB, Republic of Korea; Commander, 388th Logistics Support Squadron, Hill AFB, Utah; and Commander, 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Hill AFB, Utah.

After his Air Force career, he worked as a program manager for two defense contractors in Florida, and in 2009 chose to follow his passion for teaching and made the leap to a career in education.  He earned his teaching licensure through Florida’s alternative licensure program and taught middle school science through 2018.  He earned his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida and his Administrative licensure in 2018.  His other degrees include an Associate of Logistics Management from the Community College of the Air Force (1986); Bachelor of Business Administration (1988) and Master of Business Administration (1989) from Kent State University, Ohio; and Master of Military Operational Arts & Sciences, Air University/Air Command & Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Alabama (2001).  He is a 2021 graduate of the New Mexico Aspiring Superintendents Academy (2021) and is currently a student in the New Mexico First-Year Superintendents Academy.

As Superintendent, Dr. Moore’s priorities are 1) safety, security, health, and well-being of our students and employees; 2) building positive relationships that support learning; and 3) excellence in everything we do.  He values equity, diversity, extreme ownership, and lifelong learning.  He believes the purpose of public education is to ensure all students are loved, educated, and well-prepared for a successful and productive life upon reaching the common milestone of high school graduation, regardless of the circumstances into which they were born.  And he wants everyone to know that Alamogordo Public Schools is ALL IN to serve, support, educate, and elevate ALL STUDENTS; and to make APS the #1 School District in New Mexico and among the best in the U.S.!
